Reflection on Alma 37:6

“Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.” (Alma 37:6)

Prepare your heart to receive the Spirit’s guidance as you ponder the power of small and simple actions.

Slowly read this verse, focusing on the phrase “small and simple things.” Reflect on the truth that the Lord often works through humble means to accomplish His purposes.

Reflection on 1 Nephi 13:34

“And it came to pass that the angel of the Lord spake unto me, saying: Behold, saith the Lamb of God, after I have visited the remnant of the house of Israel—and this remnant of whom I speak is the seed of thy father—wherefore, after I have visited them in judgement, and smitten them by the hand of the Gentiles, and after the Gentiles do stumble exceedingly, because of the most plain and precious parts of the gospel of the Lamb which have been kept back by that abominable church, which is the mother of harlots, saith the Lamb—I will be merciful unto the Gentiles in that day, insomuch that I will bring forth unto them, in mine own power, much of my gospel, which shall be plain and precious, saith the Lamb.” – 1 Nephi 13:34

This verse makes me think of the overarching mercy of the Lamb of God and the divine orchestration of His gospel throughout history. It refers to the challenges faced by the remnant of Israel and the Gentiles as a result of the withholding and distortion of the gospel’s plain and precious truths. Despite this, the verse carries a message of hope, showing us that God’s mercy is unrelenting and His power absolute.

Living a Virtuous Life in Word and Deed

As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called to live a life of virtue, reflecting His light through our actions, our thoughts, and our words. In a world where foul language and coarse speech are commonplace, the Lord invites us to rise above such behaviour, embracing purity in our communication and sincerity in our hearts.

The Apostle Paul admonished the saints in Ephesus, saying, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” (Ephesians 4:29) Words possess the power to build up or to tear down; they reveal the condition of our hearts and influence those around us. James said, “Even so, the tongue is a little member and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity; so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.” (James 3:5-6) By refraining from the use of foul language, we cultivate an environment where the Spirit of the Lord can dwell, and we demonstrate respect for God’s creation, including ourselves and those we encounter.

Christmas Greetings

As we celebrate this sacred Christmas season, my heart is filled with gratitude for the gift of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. His infinite love and atoning sacrifice illuminate our lives, bringing peace and hope amid life’s trials. At this special time of year, may we reflect deeply on His humble birth and rededicate ourselves to following His perfect example.

The dawning of a new year invites us to press forward with faith, striving to live the covenants we have made. I am thankful for the fellowship we share as spiritual brethren, encouraging one another to remain steadfast in the Gospel. Together, we can face the days ahead with courage, knowing that Heavenly Father’s promises are sure.

Divine Invitation to Repentance

Do you feel distant from God, weighed down by the guilt of sin, and unsure if you can find your way back to Him? Take comfort in the promise found in James 4:8: “Draw nigh [close] to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” These words offer assurance that reconciliation with the Lord is always possible, no matter how far we may have strayed.

Heavenly Father’s invitation calls for repentance, humility, and sincerity of heart. To “cleanse your hands” signifies letting go of sinful behaviours, while to “purify your hearts” speaks of aligning your innermost thoughts and desires with God’s will. It challenges us to move away from being “double minded”—torn between worldly distractions and divine devotion—and instead embrace wholehearted commitment to the Lord.

Study for 23-29 December 2024 – Witnesses of Christ in the Book of Mormon

Come, Follow Me—For Home and Church: Book of Mormon 2024, for 23-29 December 2024.

The Book of Mormon, from front to back, is a commanding testament of Jesus Christ as the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. Its prophets were united in their sacred mission, which is summarised on the book’s title page: “the convincing of [all people] that Jesus is the Christ.” Each prophet bore a unique and thorough witness of the Saviour, and their combined testimonies converge on the eternal truth that salvation is found only through Jesus Christ and His infinite Atonement.

Reflections on Moroni Chapter 10

A Call to Come Unto Christ

In this talk, I wanted to reflect upon the powerful exhortation found in Moroni chapter 10, the final chapter of the Book of Mormon. This chapter, sometimes called Moroni’s farewell, is a timeless invitation to all the children of God to come unto Christ, partake of His grace, and receive the blessings of His Spirit.

Moroni begins with an exhortation to remember the mercies of the Lord from the creation of Adam until now (Moroni 10:3). This remembrance is an act of gratitude and faith. As we reflect on how the Lord has worked through prophets, covenants, and miracles to redeem His children, we see His hand guiding us. Do we take time in our lives to remember these mercies? Do we ponder the ways He has blessed us personally? Gratitude for God’s works opens our hearts to receive His truth.

Remaining Humble and Giving Heavenly Father the Glory

As I have sought to follow the Saviour’s teachings, I have learned—sometimes through humbling experiences—that everything I have, and all that I accomplish, comes because of Him.

I recall a time when I worked tirelessly on a project that meant a great deal to me. It required not only my skills and effort but also my heart and soul. When it was completed, others praised the work, and I felt a sense of satisfaction. But as the accolades came, so too did a small voice in my mind that whispered, Remember who gave you this ability. In that moment, I realised how easy it is to slip into pride, to believe that our achievements are solely the result of our own efforts. I turned to prayer, offering heartfelt gratitude to Heavenly Father for blessing me with the talents and opportunities that made the work possible. As I did, I was filled with a sense of peace and clarity. I felt the Spirit testify that every good thing in my life is a gift from the Lord. It was a humbling experience that reminded me of the words in the Book of Mormon: “We will glory in the Lord; yea, we will rejoice, for our joy is full; yea, we will praise our God forever.” “I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.” (Alma 26:16; 29:9)
